and was asked, amidst other things, about Hungary’south human relationship with the EU, NATO, and Russia, regarding the Ukrainian conflict.

Hungarian Minister of Strange Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, who arrived in Lyon, French republic, for a meeting of EU foreign ministers and health ministers, and the opening of the Hungarian consulate at that place, gave an interview in

Ukrainian conflict and Hungary

Szijjártó told
that “we run across the tension is getting more than and more than serious in the eastern role of the continent, which is very very bad news for united states Hungarians.” The Foreign Minister recalled that Hungarians conduct the retentivity of the Cold War and also the retentivity of always being losers of Eastern-Western conflicts, being positioned in Central Europe. He wants whatsoever violent actions to be avoided since

If there are any vehement actions, we can just be losers of that.”

PM Orbán in Moscow

“When information technology comes to the question of whether Russian federation would similar to invade or whether Russia would similar to get into a war in Ukraine, we hope the reply will be no for a long time. This was President Putin’s argument during the meeting [with Prime Minister Orbán].”

Szijjártó talked near the importance of affairs, because he believes that with affairs, there is a bigger hazard to come to a peaceful agreement. “That’southward why we were really happy that following the visit of Prime number Minister Orbán, President Macron also visited Moscow,” and he mentioned more planned visits in the future from other countries to Russia every bit well: “The more than meetings, the more visits, the more dialogs, the ameliorate.”

Sanctions against Russia

Szijjártó believes sanctions never work, they are “failures” and Hungary never vetoed them just because “we didn’t want to bray the European Unity.”

“If you expect at the merchandise volume between large, Western European countries, including France by the way, with the Russian Federation, you lot will see the figures and y’all will see how much the trade between France and the Russian federation, the merchandise between Deutschland and the Russian federation, has increased since the sanctions have been in place. My position is that if we speak near further sanctions, it’south necessary to see an honest analysis of the sanctions which accept been in place,” Szijjártó said.

Additional NATO troops non needed by Republic of hungary

The US has sent extra soldiers to Poland and Romania while Germany has bolstered troop numbers in Lithuania — NATO troops are already stationed in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania likewise as Poland. But the Orbán government does not desire to increase the presence of NATO forces in Republic of hungary, according to the Foreign Government minister

Nosotros already have NATO troops on the territory of the land which is the Hungarian Regular army, and the Hungarian Armed services are in proper shape to guarantee the security of the state. And so we don’t need boosted troops on the territory of Hungary.”

Nosotros are members of NATO and we are members of the European Marriage.” If the Hungarian Military were not in a shape to protect the country, said Szijjártó, and so “this question, whether to accept further troops, would make sense. In this case, it doesn’t brand sense because we can protect ourselves.”

Covid-nineteen and vaccines

Szijjártó said that he would “admittedly” support further collaborations about health issues between the European union and Russia because

A vaccine must not be considered every bit a political argument.”

“If y’all look at the figures, it’southward obvious that Sputnik and Sinopharm have been working out very well. They are safe, they are constructive. So, I think, the merely reason that these are not recognized, or are only partly recognized, is purely political. Once more, I want to underline, that when information technology comes to saving the lives of people, vaccines must not be taken into consideration as political statements. I really do hope that at to the lowest degree on that, on saving the lives of people, on fighting the pandemic, there volition exist rational cooperation between Due east and West which is in the utmost involvement of the Primal European region.”
