This isn’t Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian’s first Olympics, merely this time, she’s on a different team.

Fenlator-Victorian’s first Olympics was in 2014 in Sochi. She competed as part of the U.Due south. Olympic Bobsled team, but this year, in PyeongChang, she’s representing Jamaica.

Fenlator-Victorian switched from the United states squad to the Jamaican team in order to increase the level of diverseness in bobsledding.

In 2010, the Jamaica Bobsleigh Federation asked Fenlator-Victorian about competing on behalf of the country, but because she was already participating in a Us bobsled evolution programme, she refused the offering.

Fast frontward to 2015, Fenlator-Victorian switched teams, hoping that the motility would aid concenter more than females and those with diverse backgrounds to bobsledding.

It’southward critical that “little girls and fiddling boys see someone that looks like them, talks like them, has the same culture as them, has crazy, curly hair and wears a natural, has brown skin, included in unlike things in this globe,” Fenlator-Victorian said at the Winter Olympics press conference. “When you grow up and you don’t see that, yous experience that you can’t do it. And that is not right.”

Xxx years ago, Jamaica sent the country’s commencement men’s bobsled team — which became the inspiration for the 1993 Disney Flick, “Cool Runnings” — to the 1988 Calgary Olympics.

Fenlator-Victorian got involved in bobsled in 2007 afterward graduating from Passenger University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Her former track and field motorcoach recommended that she go to a bobsled camp.

As a rail and field athlete, she broke Passenger University records in shot put, weight throw, and discus. She’due south also in the Passenger Academy Hall of Fame.

She began as a brakeman for her a few years, due to her rails and field background, but gradually fabricated the switch to the pilot seat, where she is today.

Fenlator-Victorian’s husband is as well a bobsledder.

Bobsled is not but her passion, but a family matter. Fenlator-Victorian is married to Aaron Surf Victorian, a former U.S. bobsledder who is also now competing for Jamaica.

In fact, later the 2014-2015 World Cup Flavor, she spoke with her so future-husband nigh her longterm goals.

“I want to make an impact, and I want it to mean something,” Fenlator-Victorian responded, according to NBC Olympics. “Of course I want to win a golden medal and be competitive, but also that, I desire something more.”

Fenlator-Victorian had an impressive debut every bit a role of the Jamaican team at the World Loving cup.

The first time Fenlator-Victorian competed for Jamaica at the World Cup — only two months before the winter games started — she took 7th identify. It was the best issue the Jamaican women’due south bobsled squad has ever received at an elite international competition.
